theme for the 2020 Aperture Summer Open was “Information,” which posed the question: how can photographs provide information at a moment when ideas about truth and power have been disrupted?
The curators of the 2020 Aperture Summer Open sought out new bodies of work portraying experiences of globalization, technology, and politics, and the dynamic changes to personal and social identity charted by mass media.

The graphic treatment was based on the idea of layering, referencing the complexity of the issues surrounding the theme and also the multitude of resources available for communication. The colors referenced the skyline on a horizon,
with the gradient helping to invoke the idea of new or uncharted territory for visual communication.
