Houseplants is a limited-edition pop-up book that is a work of art in itself. It renders Daniel Gordon’s sculptural forms into a new layer of materiality and animates them in a pop-up performance. The book consists of six works in pop-up form. Some featuring simple plants, others unfolding more elaborate tableaux. Inspired by his interest in the popularity of certain subjects on the internet, Gordon meticulously cuts up pictures found online to create sculptural and fantastical still lifes.

The design for the cover drew inspiration from houseplant books from the 1970s. The typeface Avant Garde was chosen to help invoke the feeling of this time period, while also creating a contemporary quality through the materials used. The green canvas and rose gold foil complement the colors in Gordon’s artworks, giving it a distinct, clean, and bold design.
